What is Commercial Cookery?

Commercial Cookery is a course intended for students who are passionate in cooking in commercial setting, including restaurants, hotels, resorts, catering services, bistros and the likes. Students are expected to learn proper food handling, hygiene, food production and related matters such as team work and budgeting.

 

What is Hospitality?

Hospitality is described as the friendly reception or treatment of guests or strangers. In terms of the industry, it operates within the service and tourism industry that covers hotels, lodging, theme parks, transportation such as airlines and cruise lines, cafés, restaurants, caterers and the likes. Notable jobs in the industry are Restaurant Manager, Resort Manager, Tourist / Cultural Tourist Development Manager, Travel Consultant, Hotel Manager/staff, Airline or Cruise Manager/staff; and Leisure, Sports and Events Manager. International students are able to continue their study toward Hospitality course to broaden their knowledge and skills required in understanding the industry and career prospects.

  • A valid passport for the duration of your study in Australia

  • Offer letter from the selected university or institution

  • IELTS score 5.5 overall (no score below 5.0 in each of the component) or Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) score 46 (no communicative skill score less than 40) (depend on which university/institution)

  • Evidence of Overseas Student Health Cover

  • All other relevant documents listed on the Department of Immigration and Border Protection visa checklists.

Employment Opportunities:

Graduates of Commercial Cookery can take advantage of the established industry which they can be employed in restaurants, clubs, pubs, hotels, resorts, cafes, cafeterias, coffee shops, schools, hospitals or into large scale productions as in catering/airline catering or shipping line cruises.

 

Excellent educational background, substantial work experiences and determination will help establish promising careers. Successful Commercial Cookery graduates usually hold positions such as Head Chef, Food and Beverage manager, Catering Manager, Chef de Partie, Restaurant Manager / Owner or Cooks.
